Description
Karawasi is a unique product that is perfect for lovers of handmade art and decoration, made from the joro joro seeds. This set of 2, is a unique and authentic foot jewelry from the Wayana tribe from Apetina, South Suriname.
These seeds come from the yellow oleander (thevetia peruviana) and are toxic. Traditionally, indigenous people make rattles (\’karawasi\’) from them by tying the dried ripe fruits in a warimbo basket (woven from Ischnosiphon arouma) to a stick and stamping them on the ground in a certain rhythm during traditional dances, creating a rattling sound.
Among the Wayana\’s, krawasie\’s are also tied to the ankles.
